WebSep 5, 2024 · That would narrow your choice down to the Thorens. I own both. While I love the Dual, I've learned to accept the fact that it requires a bit of warmup before the speed stabilizes. The Dual has a w/f of about 0.025% according to Vinyl Engine. I seriously doubt any belt drive will come close to matching that. It comes with a new plinth and dustcover. The dustcover has a few light scuffs. The cartridge is only 2 weeks old.

I talked to Bill at FixMyDual.com Since Bill works only on Duals, I posed the question to him regarding the difference between the 1229 and 1229Q. Here is his response: "Mostly styling – the Q changed the gimbal look to mirror the other tables Dual was selling at the time. Essentially, the same machine."

If it is the shaft of the platter, you'd need another platter most likely.
